American FMA 38 Title: "With the River's Flow"
Japanese Airdate: July 03, 2004
American Airdate: December 03, 2005
Important Characters: Ed, Al, Sheska, Winry, Martel
Important Locations: Central Station, Random Town
Synopsis: Ed and Al's transportation breaks down as they keep aiming for Ishbal and argue whether it is necessary to take priority in regaining their bodies or to take necessary action against Scar. On the other hand, Sheska examines information regarding Juliet Douglas with Winry and reaches a certain hypothesis about her at last.
Video Edit
Picky picky. Yes I am. The start of the break has the logo appear later in the English dub than it did in the Japanese. It starts up the moment Winry begins to stand up. The English dub has it appear after she's stood. And the logo in the return is in the wrong spot. This won't be done on the DVD since they use the Japanese video. :P
Side Note
Here's an interesting bit. As Sciezka mentions that she believes Juliet Douglas is an alien, sound effects from the classic arcade video game, Space Invaders, are used. Suprisingly, they kept the sounds in the US dub. Guess they were allowed to use them in both versions.
Cut
A second cut is made as we return from the flashback Ed has of his younger self. Originally the flashback ends and the screen pans down from the town and then to Ed. The English dub simply ends the flashback and starts up with Ed in full view.
Thoughts
I really liked this episode. We get a follow-up episode that focuses more on the side characters than the Elric brothers. I gotta say, Winry looked rather good in the military uniform. >_>; The whole thought process on what Sloth was was also a nice humorous treat. And who could forget the great "Afro-Ed" (as I've dubbed it) moment? Dub-wise, the episode's just about solid. Everything's intact except for the minor snippet that usually occurs in episodes once in a while. Overall, great episode.
